Edmonton flower shop owner says she was ‘in a state of shock’ as she found out she was pregnant

Lisa Farrow, owner of a flower shop in the Alberta city of Edmonton, says she’s been in a state for weeks of shock after learning she was expecting a child.

Farrow has been a regular customer of the flower shop for five years and said she was shocked to hear her husband, John Farrow of Calgary, was planning on having the baby.

“I had a little shock of my own,” she said.

Farrow said she felt like she was “a ghost” in the store and didn’t feel like a mom. “

When you are a parent it’s not something you really know.”

“My husband said he’s a little scared of me, and that he was thinking about the baby,” she added.

Furlings staff have been working with staff from the Alberta Health Services to plan a delivery.

“Our hearts go out to all the staff that work here at the flower shops,” said Stephanie Cavanagh, a spokesperson for Alberta Health.

“They are all grieving with their families, and they’re all going to miss them, but we’re hoping they can get through this as well.”

Fowlers husband, who is currently away on business, has worked in the business since 2005 and is the company’s chief operating officer.

“He has been with the business for almost five years,” said Farrow.

“We’ve always known that we were going to have a child.”

Farrow explained that she decided to have an open-heart surgery.

“You just have to let go and just keep going,” she recalled.

“This is the first step in our journey, so you have to hold yourself back and hold your heart back.”

Farrows husband said the news came as a shock, but she’s not worried.

“As far as I know, she’s happy,” said John.

“What I think it’s a matter of how you handle it.”

The couple will continue to work at the business until the baby arrives.

“Once they get there, we’re going to do what we need to do,” said Lisa.

“There are a lot of people that work in the flower stores and I know they’re upset.

But we’re just here to make things a little bit easier for our customers.”
