‘My God!’ Woman pleads guilty in death of ‘Hail Mary’ flower shop owner

WASHINGTON — A Washington woman pleaded guilty Friday to charges that she killed a man who was trying to sell her a “Hail Maria” flower shop.

In exchange for her guilty plea, prosecutors dropped a separate manslaughter charge of selling the flowers illegally.

The Washington County District Attorney’s Office says it’s investigating the killing of Brian T. Jackson, 37, in October 2014.

Prosecutors say Jackson, who was a self-employed landscaper, had been selling flowers at the flower shop for about a year.

Prosecutors allege Jackson tried to sell flowers illegally in May of that year.

He died from his injuries in the fall.

In a statement Friday, District Attorney David G. Cox said, “In a very tragic incident, a man was killed while trying to buy flowers at a flower shop on May 1, 2014.

I commend the law enforcement officers who assisted in this investigation.”

The victim was identified as Michael M. Jackson.

He was a resident of Mount Vernon, Washington.

In the statement, Cox said his death “underscores the need for state-level legislation to strengthen laws that protect the sanctity of our public lands and natural resources.”

“This case underscores the need to address the growing issue of illegal flower sales,” he added.

The prosecutor said that while prosecutors have not yet filed charges in Jackson’s death, they will seek criminal charges in the case.
